Creating a Tagline

LifeStoked.com has been up and running since June (about 4.5 months) and I still don’t know -exactly- what it’s about. I know I’m passionate about success and entrepreneurship, but I haven’t quite found my voice or exactly how Life Stoked will reflect that passion.

Without knowing that it’s impossible to continue with branding and positioning myself.

I’ve been poking at it since I started. I’ve tried on several different tag-lines and have pages and pages of notes thinking through ideas.

Passions

The best place to look to discover what Life Stoked is about is my own passions. Six months ago I could’ve easily rattled off several things I’m passionate about, but I didn’t have the depth of understanding necessary to know what was at the heart of Life Stoked.

Thinking It Through

From there it was a matter of condensing a list of 5 to 10 bullet points of things I’m passionate about into a tag-line. What are the common themes amongst this list? What is it about this list that gets me excited? How can this stuff be helpful to others?

Harder than I thought.

I kept getting stuck on this:

Helping people build an extraordinary life.

But it just wasn’t right. The word “extraordinary” just seemed… well, NOT extraordinary. Plus, I felt like it was somehow saying that I wanted to explore the Amazon rain forest or backpack across Asia.

The life I want to build is certainly extraordinary, but not in a hollywood sense.

The “extraordinary” I was trying to capture was more about living the life you were created to live. If you were born for exotic travel, then go do that! But for most of us we were created to do something a little more normal.

For me it’s about building something that helps people and (one day) having the freedom to work where and when I want. It’s about becoming financially independent. It’s about using the skills that God has blessed me with to their fullest.

The New Tagline

I kept thinking about those ideas for myself, but also how each person has a totally unique Life Stoked. I came up with this:

Create a life you’re excited to live.

I like it because it’s about getting off the templatized, drab, uninspired path so many of us are on and doing something we love! I also love the word “Create” in there because that’s what you have to do - you have to create something for yourself. The onus is on you.

The Million Dollar Blog Project - Life Stoked

An accountability journal? Really? What is this thing anyway?

In September 2011 Corbett Barr launched the Million Dollar Blog Project (#MDBP). The project consists of two things:

1. They’re building a new authority blog on a topic they’re excited about (that the community helped choose). The aim is to build a blog from nothing that earns a million dollars in revenue over its life.

2. They want this project to spawn a million dollars in total revenue over the next two years for other people’s blogs.

That’s where I come in. I’m participating in the #MDBP with my blog Life Stoked. I’m excited about this project because it’s going to help me learn how to build Life Stoked from nothing into a resource that helps lots of people!

So what does that have to do with an accountability journal?

This is part of it! Everyone participating in the challenge is keeping an online, public accountability journal. This is where I’ll write about what I’m working on, how it’s going, successes, and (of course) failures.

I’m excited about this project and looking forward to sharing it with others. Have you started your Million Dollar Blog Project blog yet? It’s not too late!

Are you doing the #MDBP? Leave me a comment and say Hi! I’d love to meet you!
